The D’Avanzo Piano Trio

Lucia D’Avanzo  violin  ·  Noelle Casella  cello  ·  Sebastian Grand piano

Biography

The D’Avanzo Piano Trio was formed in concept as Lucia and Seb came to the end of their undergraduate courses at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.  Noelle completed the ensemble on their arrival at the Royal Academy of Music in September 2010, where they are all studying for their Masters degrees.

Lucia graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a First Class degree in 2010.  Whilst at the RNCM she progressed to the finals of the Norman George Violin Scholarship and was heavily involved with chamber music, her string quartet collaborating with many musicians to perform works by such diverse composers as Finzi, Kre?ek, Bruch, Mozart and Ravel.  She now performs regularly with English National Opera and Duo Figaro, her violin-viola ensemble.

American-born Noelle has performed across many genres of music from classical to rock, improvisational to dance, in venues ranging from New York City and Philadelphia to Holland and the UK.  Her classical training has taken her to the Sarah Lawrence College in New York and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the Netherlands.  Noelle’s work incorporates her classically trained roots with a love for composition and improvisation.

Following a rich musical education in Guernsey, Seb graduated from the RNCM and University of Manchester’s prestigious Joint Course with a First-class degree, under the tutelage of Paul Janes.  Whilst studying in Manchester, Seb was awarded the Hargreaves Prize for outstanding achievement in each year of his studies and won both the Procter-Gregg prize and the RNCM Piano Duo Prize.  Seb is also founder and principal conductor of the Guernsey Sinfonietta.

The D’Avanzo Piano Trio enjoy exploring all repertoire for this ensemble and hope to continue this beyond completion of their postgraduate courses.  The ensemble are looking forward to several recitals in the coming year across the south of England including concerts in Kent, Greenwich and at the Royal Academy of Music.

Lucia, Noelle and Seb would like to thank the Oswalds (and their neighbours!) for providing them with the perfect rehearsal space.
